Martin, SD Police Chief Tom Jeans issued a mandatory curfew through the Emergency Alert System late Tuesday night.

The curfew begins Wednesday at 2 a.m. (MT) and lasts until 5:30 a.m.

The alert says no one is to be out during this curfew. Violators are subject to arrest.

“Tension between two separate groups has resulted in at least five aggravated assaults, creating a safety issue for the residents in the city limits of Martin,” Jeans said in a statement.

This is in relation to an on-going criminal investigation. The incident is being called “Operation Full Moon.”

Bennett County officials told KELOLAND News they have extra staff on-duty. The police department has activated an Emergency Operations Center. They’re receiving assistance from federal, state and local officials.

Officials are telling residents to listen to NOAA Weather radio for the latest. While this is not a weather alert, any new alerts alerts will also appear on the KELOLAND Weather Alert page.

This is a developing story.
