WASHINGTON D.C. (KELO) — President Donald Trump tweeted about fireworks returning to Mount Rushmore for the Fourth of July beginning in 2020 on Tuesday evening.

I am pleased to inform you that THE BIG FIREWORKS, after many years of not having any, are coming back to beautiful Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. Great work @GovKristiNoem and @SecBernhardt! #MAGA— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 8, 2019

Trump thanked Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD) and the new Secretary of Interior, David Bernhardt.

Earlier in the day, Noem announced the change. She said the decision was made after several months of meetings and discussions between the State of South Dakota and the U.S. Department of the Interior.

The last time fireworks were used at Mount Rushmore was 2009. The display was stopped because of concerns related to the pine beetle infestation in the Black Hills National Forest.
