The South Dakota State Jackrabbits have the difficult task of beating top-seeded Gonzaga in round one of the NCAA tournament on Thursday.
However, this isn’t their first time playing the team. Back in 1956, SDSU beat the team at a game in Brookings 88-78 according to the school’s newspaper.
A copy of the Gonzaga Bulletin said: “the South Dakota State quintet rudely defeated the Zags 88-78 for their first loss of the tour. During the last eight minutes of play the G-men rallied desperately but were handicapped by the loss of Turner, Gordon, Irwin and Vermillion via five personal fouls.
The team also played USD and lost 83-70.
