BLOOMINGDALE, Ill. — A video of a Bloomingdale Police Officer helping a mentally disabled woman to get to her home has gone viral.
The Bloomingdale Police Department said they received a call that a 21-year-old mentally disabled woman had wandered away from her home.
Officers found her walking along the street. The police department said she was visibly scared and upset. The woman wouldn’t go with police until Bloomingdale police officer Giovenco helped her out.
“Officer Giovenco was able to calm her down and she advised that she just wanted to walk the ‘trails,'” police said in a Facebook post. “(He) told her that he would walk the ‘trails’ with her.”
To put her at ease, Giovenco held her hand the whole way.
Giovenco has been with the police department since March 2015, according to city records.
The video, which was posted Friday, has been watched more than 10,000 times and counting.
